If AI Has the Answers, Why Do We Still Need to Read?
Short answer
Reading is more than collecting answers. It gives us time to follow an argument, notice uncertainty, test understanding, and decide what deserves trust. AI can support that process, but it cannot make our judgments or live with their consequences.
A summary may deliver the conclusion in seconds. Reading an argument lets us see why a question matters, where the writer hesitates, and what evidence changes the direction of thought. Following those steps can reveal the places where we merely nodded along without understanding.
